Naples is a city full of pastry shops and bars where you can enjoy delicious breakfasts. If you are on vacation or planning a trip to this sunny city, I point out my favourite 5 places to have breakfast in Naples.

The classic way to start the day as a local is to order a strong espresso and a sfogliatella. But to tourists, I suggest enjoying a wider choice. Diving in the Neapolitan tradition, scents and flavours is the best way to get to know the real Naples.

Naples and coffee are a perfect match, that's why my list could only start from here! In this historic bar, you can enjoy the best coffee in the city. Located in a strategic position to visit Naples, in Piazza Trieste e Trento:

  • 2 min. walk from Galleria Umberto, the shopping streets Via Toledo and Via Chiaia;
  • 1 minute away from the beautiful Piazza del Plebiscito.

From this last point, a pleasant walk leads to the seafront to enjoy the amazing view over Mount Vesuvius and Castel dell' Ovo.

Their speciality is coffee, from the classic to the more elaborate, to the coffees served as real desserts. As for pastries, there is a vast and excellent selection between croissants, brioches, sfogliatelle, babbà and many other local delicacies.

For a breakfast in Naples in a refined setting we have the Gran Caffè Gambrinus. Officially inaugurated on 3 November 1890. An ideal place for a sweet or savoury breakfast in an elegant location. The restaurant preserves the luminous and dreamy atmosphere of the Belle Epoque, a perfect synthesis of neoclassical and liberty style forms.

Here too, the ancient Neapolitan Coffee tradition is respected. Drinks are accompanied by pastry, ice cream and aperitifs. An international environment to choose also for the tasty fruit salads or a brunch.

A stroll along the seaside promenade in via Caracciolo is certainly one of the things to do in Naples.

From delicious coffee to ice cream with brioche, from granitas to smoothies, from pastry to savoury. This chalet offers a thousand tasty ways to have breakfast in Naples. All accompanied by the incredible view of the Gulf, what more could you possibly want?
The Chalet Ciro while following the Neapolitan tradition, never ceases to reinvent itself and satisfy even the most demanding palates. One of the latest news is the cone (cono graffa) you see in the picture.

Sfogliatella napoletana e dove mangiarla a Napoli

My top 5 rankings to have breakfast in Naples ends with the ancient pastry Cuori di sfogliatella. Reign of delicacies, the oldest location is right in front of the central station of Naples. So, anyone arriving by train is welcomed by the tasty smell of their sweet.

You can find a more recent site in Via Toledo, right in the heart of the city. Cuori di Sfogliatella is a must for breakfast in Naples! In addition to the sfogliatelle, a typical Neapolitan dessert, made in every possible and imaginable way, I suggest you try the big glass with babbà & creams!
